Women's Volleyball Historical Season Comes to an End
November 11, 2011POTSDAM, NY- Behind a well traveled crowd, Southern Vermont College Women’s Volleyball record breaking season came to an end Friday evening at Alumni Gymnasium on the campus of Clarkson University. The Mountaineers ran up against #18 Cortland St. in the Division III NCAA regional tournament. Southern Vermont fell to the Red Dragons 3-0, 25-19, 25-12, and 25-23. -
Volleyball Looks to Continue Great Season at NCAA's
November 10, 2011Potsdam, NY- Friday afternoon, Southern Vermont College Women’s Volleyball will enter the NCAA Division III tournament at Clarkson University. The Women’s Volleyball team is the first Women’s program at the school to play in the NCAA’s and only the second team in school history. Southern Vermont will take on the Cortland St. Red Dragons at 5:30PM.

Southern Vt. Draws Cortland in NCAA Tournament
November 07, 2011POTSDAM, NY- The Southern Vermont College Women’s Volleyball team learned its fate for the NCAA Division III tournament. SVC will travel to Clarkson University for its regional. The Mountaineers will take on 18th Ranked SUNY Cortland, Friday at 5:30PM. The Red Dragons will enter the regional as the number one seed with a 37-1 record. SVC enters the NCAA tournament for the first time in program history with a 31-2 mark as the winners of the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC).

The Mountaineers and Eagles played the first of two Women’s Volleyball semi-final games at Southern Vermont Friday evening.

Volleyball Finishes Conference Play Undefeated
October 29, 2011Nashua, NH – Jessica Alvarez (Eagle Rock, Cal.) knocked down a match high 16 kills and hit. 444 with eight digs guiding Southern Vermont past host Daniel Webster, 3-0 in the NECC women’s volleyball regular season finale for both clubs Saturday at Mario Vagge Gymnasium.

Women's Volleyball Wins 2011 NECC Regular Season Championship with 3-0 Victory Over Bay Path
October 26, 2011HOLYOKE, Mass.- Wednesday night the Southern Vermont Women’s Volleyball team won the 2011 New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) regular season championship. The Mountaineers traveled to Holyoke Community College for a conference match against Bay Path College. Southern Vermont came away victorious with a 3-0 victory, improving its school best record to 28-2, 7-0 NECC.

Seniors Lead Mountaineers to Pair of 3-0 Victories
October 22, 2011BENNINGTON, Vt.- Southern Vermont College recognized it’s three tremendous seniors, Tasha Smith, Joanna Hogue, and Hershey Canta Saturday afternoon at the Mountaineer Athletic Center. Canta and Hogue who are seniors have had a major impact to the Mountaineers two year turnaround; in which the program has gone from 1-21 in 2009 to 27-2 in 2011.

Women’s Volleyball Breaks School Record for Wins
October 19, 2011CAMBRIDGE, Mass.- Wednesday night the Southern Vermont College Women’s Volleyball team set a school record for the most wins in a single season; with a 3-0 victory over New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) opponent Lesley University. A team that has already set numerous school and program records, added two more Wednesday with its first ever win against Lesley, and a school record 25 wins.

Women’s Volleyball Ties School Win Record
October 15, 2011BENNINGTON, Vt.- It was a record setting day at Southern Vermont College on Saturday afternoon, as the Women’s Volleyball team took down visiting Regis College 3-0 in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) action. The Mountaineers tied the school’s all time win mark as they improved to 24-2. The 24th win tied the 2002-02 Men’s Basketball team.

14 Straight for the Mountaineers
October 13, 2011CASTLETON, Vt.- In an odd Women’s Volleyball double header the Southern Vermont Mountaineers swept a double header against two different teams, at two different locations. The Mountaineers traveled to Castleton St. College for a 4:00PM match and won 3-0. SVC then packed up and went 10 minutes down the road to play Green Mountain College. The Mountaineers pushed their win streak to 14 with a 3-0 win over Green Mountain.

Women's Volleyball Cracks NEWVA Poll
October 12, 2011BENNINGTON, Vt.- The Southern Vermont College Women’s Volleyball team was ranked 15th in the New England Women’s Volleyball Association (NEWVA) poll Wednesday afternoon. The poll ranks the top 15 teams each week from the New England Region, based on record and strength of schedule. The ranking is only the second time any program at Southern Vermont College has received regional recognition.

Blackjack: 21 Matches, 21 Straight Sets
October 11, 2011BENNINGTON, Vt.- Tonight the Southern Vermont College Women’s Volleyball team won its 21st game of the season and its 21st straight set when the Mountaineers beat visiting Elms College 3-0. The Mountaineers won in straight sets for the sixth game in a row, and also won three straight sets against Williams College after dropping the opening set in that match. In tonight’s action the Mountaineers raced out to a 25-10 first game advantage, before winning the final two sets 25-13.

Volleyball Reaches 20 Win Plateau
October 08, 2011BENNINGTON, Vt.- The Southern Vermont College Women’s Volleyball team reached the 20 win plateau Saturday afternoon with a 3-0 victory over the visiting Newbury College Nighthawks. It was only the second time in SVC athletics history that a team has won 20 or more games. The other season was Men’s Basketball in 2002-03, that team went on to win its first round game in the NCAA tournament.

Mountaineers Roll to 10th Straight Win
October 06, 2011COBLESKILL, NY- For the first time in Southern Vermont College athletics history, an athletic team has reached a double digit win streak. The Southern Vermont College Women’s Volleyball team won its 10th straight match on Thursday evening at SUNY Cobleskill. The Mountaineers won 3-0 by scores of 25-13, 25-10, and 25-20. With the win the Mountaineers improved to 19-2, while the Fighting Tigers dropped to 6-19.

Mountaineers Soar Over Hawks in NECC Opener
October 04, 2011Leicester, Mass. --- The Southern Vermont College Mountaineers traveled to Becker College Tuesday evening and came away with a 3-0 (25-12, 25-12, 25-14) victory. It was the opening New England Collegiate Conference match for the SVC Women’s Volleyball team. The Mountaineers improved to 18-2, 1-0 in the NECC while the Hawks fell to 3-13 with a 0-2 conference mark.

Canta Grabs 1000th Assist, Volleyball Wins Eighth Straight
September 29, 2011BROOKLINE, MA- The Southern Vermont College Women’s Volleyball won its eighth straight match Thursday evening at Simmons College. SVC improved to 17-2 with the 3-0 victory over the Sharks. The Mountaineers won by scores of 25-17, 25-20, and 25-14. Senior captain Hershey Canta recorded 28 assists in the game including her 1000th in her career.

Mountaineers Tame Fighting Tigers
September 23, 2011BENNINGTON, Vt.- Off of the biggest win in recent school history the Southern Vermont College Women’s Volleyball team didn’t disappoint its home fans. The Mountaineers hosted non-conference opponent Cobleskill at the Mountaineer Athletic Center Friday evening. Southern Vermont improved its record to 16-2 with a 3-0 victory.

Mountaineers Tip the Ephs
September 21, 2011WILLIAMSTOWN, MA- The Southern Vermont College Mountaineers made history Wednesday night. The Women’s Volleyball program was the first SVC Women’s program to ever beat the Williams College Ephs. It is only the second time in school history the Mountaineers beat Williams. The 2011 team also set a mark that no other SVC women’s program has accomplished with solidifying its 15th win of the season. The Mountaineers sit at 15-2, also the best start to any athletic season.

Women’s Volleyball Claims Kean Tournament Championship
September 17, 2011UNION, NJ- The Southern Vermont College Women’s Volleyball team continued its 2011 success this weekend with a Kean Tournament Championship. The Mountaineers took on quality opponents, Goucher, Kean University, Ithaca College, and Philadelphia Biblical. SVC won 3-1 versus Goucher, 3-0 against Kean and Ithaca, and 3-2 versus Philadelphia Biblical in the weekend finale.

Volleyball Finishes 2nd Straight 5-1 Week
September 10, 2011POTSDAM, NY- The SVC Women’s Volleyball program finished its second straight week of play with a 5-1 record. After the Mountaineers went 2-0 early in the week, SVC traveled to Potsdam, NY this weekend for the Victory Promotions Invitational. At the VPI tournament the Southern Vermont went 3-1 with victories over St. Lawrence, SUNYIT, and Plattsburgh St. while they lost to host SUNY Potsdam 3-2.

In the blink of an Eye
September 02, 2011HAMILTON, NY-After a quick 2-0 start to the season Thursday night, the Southern Vermont College Volleyball program needed less than 24 hours to improve their record to 4-0. Friday afternoon SVC traveled to Hamilton College to play in the Hamilton tournament against SUNY Canton and Sage. After losing the first set to SUNY Canton the Mountaineers won the next six to finish the day with two match wins.
