Canta Grabs 1000th Assist, Volleyball Wins Eighth Straight

BROOKLINE, MA- The Southern Vermont College Women's Volleyball won its eighth straight match Thursday evening at Simmons College. SVC improved to 17-2 with the 3-0 victory over the Sharks. The Mountaineers won by scores of 25-17, 25-20, and 25-14. Senior captain Hershey Canta recorded 28 assists in the game including her 1000th in her career.

"Although we had four days rest, it was nice to see us finish like we have been playing the last five days," said Head Coach Josh Stokes.

The Mountaineers were led by NECC Player of the Week, Jessica Alvarez. Alvarez had 14 kills for the Mountaineers on 22 attempts. Junior middle Danielle Healis hit for a .522 hitting percentage connecting on 13 kills in 23 attempts. The feisty defense had 57 digs and four players with double digit digs. The Mountaineers held Simmons to 13 kills in the match.

"This is a very strong group, that is competitive all the way until the end," said Stokes.

Southern Vermont will start New England Collegiate Conference play Tuesday night at Becker College.
