ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Eight of the nine sponsored programs were represented on 2010 New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Softball All-Conference Team, it was announced today by Commissioner Del Malloy. In addition to the All-NECC honors, four separate major individual award winners and the team sportsmanship award were also voted upon and selected this week.
BROOKLINE, Mass. – The Newbury College softball team closed out the 2010 home season with a double-header sweep of Southern Vermont College Saturday afternoon 6-1 and 4-3. Freshman Talan Barron led the Mountaineers offensively going 5-for-8 overall on the day and knocking in two runs.
BENNINGTON, Vt. – The Southern Vermont College softball team was swept in an NECC doubleheader against the Daniel Webster College Eagles losing game one 17-9 and the nightcap 14-10, despite a valiant comeback, Thursday afternoon at Willow Park Field. Sophomore captain Alyssa Davis led the Mountaineers with two home runs and six RBI’s on the night.
BENNINGTON, Vt. – The Southern Vermont College softball team hosted a NECC doubleheader against the Becker College Hawks winning game one 6-4 and losing game two 19-16 Sunday afternoon at Willow Park Field. Strong defense and solid pitching helped secure SVC’s first NECC victory of the season, while a 10 run top of the seventh Hawks comeback thwarted a Mountaineer sweep in the nightcap.
LONGMEADOW, Mass. – The Southern Vermont College softball team nearly split with NECC foe the Bay Path College Wildcats as the Mountaineers lost game one 3-2 and game two 9-1 Saturday afternoon. In game one Bay Path College scored three runs in the bottom of the 7th to earn an heartbreaking come from behind victory. SVC pitcher Gabrielle Remillard pitched well in the first game striking out three and walking three.
TROY, N.Y. – The Southern Vermont College softball team lost to non-conference foe the Sage College Gators losing game one 11-3 and game two 9-8 Wednesday afternoon
Sage improved to 6-24 overall, while SVC drops to 2-17.
COBLESKILL, N.Y. – The Southern Vermont College softball team split with non-conference foe the SUNY Cobleskill Fighting Tigers winning the first game 14-10 and dropping the second game 15-4 Thursday afternoon at Fighting Tiger Park. The Mountaineers were lifted once again by sophomore Allison Murphy in the first game as she crushed two home runs for five RBI’s.
BENNINGTON, Vt. – The Southern Vermont College softball team was swept by visiting New England Collegiate Conference foe the Blazers of Elms College 10-1 and 10-2 Sunday afternoon at Willow Park Field. The Mountaineers falls to 1-14 overall, 0-6 NECC, while the Elms improves to 8-11 overall, 6-0 NECC.
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Southern Vermont College softball team was swept by New England Collegiate Conference opponent the Lesley University Lynx 11-0 and 15-1 Saturday afternoon. The Lynx improved to 10-6 (4-0 NECC) while the Mountaineers dropped to 1-12 (0-4 NECC).
BENNINGTON, Vt. – The Southern Vermont College softball team fell in a non-conference doubleheader to the Falcons of Fisher College losing 11-5 and 27-2 Friday afternoon at Willow Park Field. Sophomore Allison Murphy of Sunderland, Vt. led the way offensively for SVC going 5-for-6 on the day with two RBI’s.
BENNINGTON, Vt. – The Southern Vermont College softball team won its first game of the year when it split with the Green Mountain College Eagles winning the first game 9-6 and losing the second 10-3 Tuesday afternoon at Willow Park Field. Sophomore captain Alyssa Davis led the way for the Mountaineers going 3-for-6 with two triples, a home run, scoring three times, and tallying four RBI’s in the doubleheader.
NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College softball team opened up NECC play with a doubleheader sweep of Southern Vermont College on Saturday afternoon by final scores of 4-2 and 11-2.
CASTLETON, Vt. – The Southern Vermont College softball team was swept in a non-conference doubleheader by the Spartans of Castleton State College 8-0 and 10-5 Thursday afternoon. Allison Murphy went 3-for-5 with an RBI and Kayla Whitman went 4-for-4 with one RBI as the two sophomores led the Mountaineers offensively.
COCOA, Fla. – The Southern Vermont College softball team was defeated by the Mercy College Mavericks of Ferry, N.Y. 18-1 Wednesday, March 10, at Chain of Lakes Park. The Mountaineers had a 1-1 ball game after one and a half innings of play, but an eight run second for the Mavericks, a Division II squad, gave it enough momentum for the victory.
COCOA, Fla. – The Southern Vermont College softball team fell to the Alfred University Saxons of Alfred, N.Y. 8-0 Monday, March 8, at Chain of Lakes Park. Sophomore Gabrielle Remillard pitched well for the Mountaineers striking out three, and sophomore outfielder Kayla Whitman went 1-for-2.
COCOA, Fla. – The Southern Vermont College softball team is kicking off the 2010 season in style as it is slated to play five games in beautiful Cocoa, Florida at the Cocoa Expo on the Chain of Lakes fields March 8-11.
