Falcons Sweep Mountaineer Softball In Non-Conference Play

BENNINGTON, Vt. The Southern Vermont College softball team fell in a non-conference doubleheader to the Falcons of Fisher College losing 11-5 and 27-2 Friday afternoon at Willow Park Field. Sophomore Allison Murphy of Sunderland, Vt. led the way offensively for SVC going 5-for-6 on the day with two RBI’s.

The Mountaineers fell to 1-10 with the two loses, while the Falcons improved to 8-18 with the sweep.

Fisher came out strong scoring six runs in the first inning. Senior Jackie Streeter hit an RBI single to get it going for the Falcons and with two runners on freshman Amanda Davis hit an in the park home run to make it 4-0. A few more runs and it was 6-0, but the Mountaineers managed to get two runs on a two RBI single by Murphy to make it 6-2 heading into the second.

The Falcons added to its cushion with three runs in the third inning to make it 8-2 and finished up the game scoring one run in the fifth, sixth, and seventh inning. The Mountaineers scored three more runs in the fifth on a three run home run by sophomore Alyssa Davis.

Sophomore Gabrielle Remillard (1-6) pitched a complete game and took the loss from the circle as she struck out four and walked four. Sophomore Brittany Calderon (4-8) pitched the complete game and got the win for the Falcons fanning five Mountaineers and walking two.

Calderon led Fisher with four RBI’s as she had two hits in the first contest. Davis, who’s lone hit was a home run, and Streeter had three RBI’s and two RBI’s respectively to round out the offense for the Falcons.

Murphy went 3-for-4 for SVC with two RBI’s, and sophomore Kayla Whitman went 3-for-4 from the leadoff spot. Freshman Talan Barron had two hits and Remillard added a single to round out the box for the Mountaineers.

In the second game Fisher came out scoring five runs in the first, 13 in the second, and nine in the third to put away the game in five innings 27-2. Remillard and Whitman each had a hit and an RBI to round out the Mountaineer box.

SVC travels to NECC opponent Lesley University Saturday, April 10, for a Conference doubleheader starting at 3:00 p.m.
