SVC Women's Volleyball Falls in NECC Semis to Lesley, 3-0
November 05, 2010NASHUA, N.H. – The Southern Vermont College women’s volleyball team’s thrilling 2010 season came to an abrupt halt with a 3-0 loss to the Lesley University Lynx in the NECC Semis at Daniel Webster College Friday night. The Mountaineers finished 14-9 overall, its best season in history and enjoyed a remarkable turnaround after posting a combined record of 1-42 over the previous two seasons. -
#3 Southern Vermont Women’s Volleyball Sweeps #6 Bay Path 3-0 in NECC Quarterfinal Play
November 02, 2010BENNINGTON, Vt. – The Southern Vermont College Mountaineers women’s volleyball team knocked out the #6 Bay Path College Wildcats 3-0 in the New England Collegiate Conference Championship Quarterfinals Tuesday night at the MAC. The win advances the #3 SVC squad to the semifinals against #2 Lesley University Lynx (17-9, 6-1 NECC) Friday, November 5th, at 8:00 p.m. The remainder of the tournament is at #1 Daniel Webster College in Nashua, N.H. -
2010 NECC Women’s Volleyball Championship Pairings Announced
November 01, 2010ATTLEBORO, Mass.—The 2009 NECC champs, the Eagles of Daniel Webster College have claimed the top seed in the 2010 New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Women's Volleyball Championship, which begins with quarterfinal matchups on campus sites Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. The Eagles (17-6 overall) earned the top spot in the upcoming NECC tournament after posting a perfect 7-0 conference record. -
Lesley Clinches Second Seed with NECC Sweep Over Elms & SVC
October 30, 2010CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Lesley University improved to 17-9 overall and 6-1 in New England Collegiate Conference play by taking 3-0 victories from Elms College and Southern Vermont on Saturday. Elms (7-19, 3-4 NECC) bested Southern Vermont (13-8, 4-3 NECC), 3-2, in the middle match. -
Women’s Volleyball Soars over Eagles on Senior Night
October 27, 2010BENNINGTON, Vt. – The Southern Vermont College women’s volleyball team cruised past non-conference foe the Eagles of Green Mountain College 3-1 Wednesday night in the MAC. The Mountaineers celebrated “senior night,” recognizing the accomplishments of seniors Brittany Barclay, Michelle Ritenour, and Sarah Golub, as the young squad improved to 13-6. -
SVC Volleyball Sweeps Bay Path and Becker in NECC Tri-match
October 16, 2010BENNINGTON, Vt. – The Southern Vermont College women’s volleyball team swept a New England Collegiate Conference tri-match Saturday, October 16th, at the MAC. The Mountaineers fended off the Bay Path College Wildcats 3-0 in the first match of the day, BPC defeated the Becker College Hawks 3-1 in the middle match, and SVC swept BC 3-0 to finish the sweep. -
SVC Volleyball Celebrates Breast Cancer Awareness Month with Pink-Out Day
October 12, 2010BENNINGTON, Vt. – The Southern Vermont College women’s volleyball team is celebrating breast cancer awareness month by making Saturday, October 16th, “Pink-Out Day”. The tri-match will feature New England Collegiate Conference opponents Becker College and Bay Path College. All three teams will be wearing pink in the matches and SVC’s Student Cancer Association will be taking donations and selling T-shirts all day. -
Daniel Webster Sweeps, Southern Vermont Splits at Mitchell
October 09, 2010NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College women’s volleyball team hosted Daniel Webster College and Southern Vermont College in a conference tripleheader on Saturday afternoon at the Yarnall Athletic Center. DWC (8-5 overall, 2-0 NECC) defeated MC 3-0 in the day’s first match. The Eagles then came from a set down to post a 3-2 victory over SVC (10-5 overall, 2-1 NECC), which later wrapped up the day with a 3-1 win against the host Mariners (3-10 overall, 0-4 NECC). -
SVC Volleyball Defeats Cobleskill & Newbury
October 02, 2010BENNINGTON, Vt. The Southern Vermont College womens volleyball team swept a home tri-match defeating the SUNY Cobleskill Fighting Tigers 3-2 and New England Collegiate Conference opponent the Newbury College Nighthawks 3-2 Saturday in the MAC. The Mountaineers were led by juniors Hershey Canta (70 assists), Ashliy Veliz (46 kills), and Joanna Hogue (47 digs) to come out of the weekend 9-4 (1-0). SVC is on a five game winning streak. -
SVC Volleyball Dismantles Bay Path & Johnson State at Homecoming Tri-Match
September 25, 2010BENNINGTON, Vt. Southern Vermont College womens volleyball continued their winning ways improving to 7-4 today. The Mountaineers hosted a tri-match in the Mountaineer Athletic Center. SVC defeated NECC, Bay Path College and non-conference Johnson State College, 3-0. -
SVC Volleyball Defeats Curry, Falls to Castleton
September 19, 2010BENNINGTON, Vt. The Southern Vermont College womens volleyball team hosted a non-conference tri-match Saturday in the Mountaineer Athletic Center. The young squad lost 3-2 to the Castleton State College Spartans and defeated the Curry College Colonels 3-1 in the second match. Junior Ashliy Veliz finished the day with 33 kills and 40 digs to lead SVC to a 1-1 day. -
Mountaineers Trounce Eagles
September 16, 2010POULTNEY, Vt. The Southern Vermont College Mountaineers womens volleyball team upended the Green Mountain College Eagles 3-1 in non-conference action Thursday evening. Junior outside-hitter Ashliy Veliz led the way for SVC with 24 kills (.236). Southern Vermonts last win over the Eagles was in 2007 and Head Coach Josh Stokes was stoked with the result, I am happy we ended a two year drought against Green Mountain. -

The Southern Vermont College womens volleyball team cruised past Cooper Union College and St. Joseph's College of Brooklyn with two 3-0 victories Friday night at the Kean University Tournament. The Mountaineers were led by the juniors Ashliy Veliz, Rita Hall, and Hershey Canta. SVC improves to 2-2 with the wins. -

The Southern Vermont College womens volleyball team hosted a non-conference tri-match to kick off its 2010 season and fell short in both matches 3-1 to Bard College and 3-2 to Mahattanville College in the Mountaineer Athletic Center. Junior Ashliy Veliz, of Glendale, California led all squads with 41 kills on the day. -

Stokes Named Volleyball Coach
August 01, 2010BENNINGTON, Vt. The Southern Vermont College Athletics Department appointed Joshua Stokes as the new head volleyball coach during the summer. Stokes was most recently the assistant womens volleyball coach at State University of New York at Potsdam. His duties at Southern Vermont include coaching both the womens program that plays in the fall and the mens that runs in the spring.
