Women's XC Concludes Season at NCAA Regional Qualifying Meet

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – On Saturday, the Southern Vermont College women's cross country ran its last race of the 2014 season as three Mountaineers participated in the NCAA Division III Regional Qualifier hosted by Williams College at Mount Greylock Regional High School.

SVC sophomore Shelby Whitman (Bennington, Vermont) battled through the cold to finish first for the Mountaineers, coming through with a time of 25:16 in her first career NCAA event.

Southern Vermont sophomore Schyler McGuire (Mechanicville, New York) was next across the line for the team, finishing at 27:43. Senior Emily Freling (Schenevus, New York), who was also competing in her first NCAA race, finished the 6000 meter course with a 29:58 showing.

Massachusetts Institute of Technology junior Sarah Quinn (Watchung, New Jersey) took the individual championship with a time of 21:39, helping the Beavers easily take the team title with 40 total points. Middlebury College placed second with 65 team points, and Williams grabbed third with 95.

A total of 387 runners participated Saturday afternoon with 57 squads turning in team scores.

Some of the Mountaineers will now focus on and prepare for the nontraditional spring track & field season.
