WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Southern Vermont College men's cross country team concluded its 2014 season Saturday, placing as a team in the top half of the field among squads that scored at the NCAA Division III Regional Qualifier.

The 8000 meter race was hosted by Williams College at Mount Greylock Regional High School.

The Mountaineers finished 27th out of 54 crews on the day, being led by freshman Marc Brandmeyer (Bennington, Vermont) who crossed the line at 61st overall with a time of 26:49 in the cold conditions.

Next to finish for SVC was sophomore rookie Justin Ferguson (Broadalbin, New York) who crossed at 27:00. Senior Herson Canta (Lagunitas, California) finished his career with a 28:10 showing, taking eight seconds off his NCAA time from last year's race.

Sophomore Corey Barcomb (Burlington, Vermont) crossed at 30:07, and senior captain Victor Velazquez (South Pasadena, California) wrapped up his Southern Vermont cross country career with a time of 30:50.

Colby College was the meet champion with a total of 63 points. Amherst College wasn't far behind, collecting 69 points and slighting Massachusetts Institute of Technology by one for second place. Williams senior Colin Cotton (Cincinnati, Ohio) took the individual title, leading the 373-runner field with a top time of 25:10.

Many of the Mountaineers will now take some time to rest and recover before they start training for the 2015 outdoor track & field season, the first for the newly-established SVC men's program.
