Eagles Soar Past Mountaineers

BENNINGTON, Vt. - The Southern Vermont College women's basketball team hosted the Daniel Webster College Eagles in New England Collegiate Conference play losing 62-32 Tuesday night at the Field House. The Mountaineers were led by freshman forward Corey Higgins who tallied eight points (4-of-5), seven rebounds, and a block. The Eagles were led by sophomore guard Vanessa Bosques who had 17 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and three steals.

The Mountaineers battled hard in the first half against the NECC second place Eagles but could only muster up 10 points in the first half as it was 34-10 at the break. DWC out-rebounded SVC 56-43 and shot 35% from the field compared to the Mountaineers 20%.

Both teams struggled with turnovers throughout the game with 25 for Southern Vermont and 21 for Daniel Webster.

Kirsten Murphy had a strong outing with a double-double of 12 points and 11 boards. Rounding out the Eagles offensive game was sophomore guard Alycia Gervais who had 13 points and seven rebounds.

Freshman forward Christie Henry hit the boards hard all night as she finished with 18 rebounds (a season high for SVC).

The Mountaineers are back in action Thursday, January 14th, when it travels to Newbury College for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off.
