Men's Soccer Downed 1-0 at Becker on First Half Penalty Kick

LEICESTER, Mass. – A penalty kick awarded to the hosting Becker College Hawks in the 27th minute was the difference maker Saturday as the Southern Vermont College men's soccer team fell 1-0 in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) action at Alumni Field.

Becker converted on its penalty to make it 1-0 midway through the first half, and neither side could score through the rest of live play as the Hawks closed out the tight victory.

SVC (3-6-2, 0-1-2) continues the Conference schedule on Tuesday with a 7 p.m. match at Wheelock College, the team's fifth night game of the season taking place at the Winsor School in Boston.

Saturday was the third one-goal loss for Southern Vermont this year. The Hawks took a 9-4 edge in shots on goal while taking five corners to the Mountaineers' three.

Southern Vermont freshman keeper Chris Jimenez (Newark, N.J.) came up with eight saves in the loss (3-6-2).

SVC had its chances in the second half but couldn't make them hurt, the visitors' three shots on frame during the period being turned away as Becker maintained the shutout. The Hawks put six shots on net in the final 45 minutes, but Jimenez stopped each one to keep the Mountaineers within one.
