ALBANY, N.Y. – A goal just 18 seconds into the match ended up being the game winner Monday evening as the hosting Sage Colleges Gators downed Southern Vermont College 4-0 in non-conference men's soccer action at the Albany College of Pharmacy Athletic Complex.
Sage would go on to score another goal in the first half before adding a pair in the final 45 minutes to finish off the win.
The loss drops SVC to 3-5-2 on the year. The Mountaineers are next in action Saturday morning, playing an 11 a.m. New England Collegiate Conference match at Becker College.
The Gators held a 7-0 advantage on corner kicks and put 14 shots on frame while preventing Southern Vermont from registering any shots on goal.
SVC freshman keeper Chris Jimenez (Newark, N.J.) made 10 saves from between the pipes in the loss (3-5-2).
After Sage scored 18 seconds into the contest, the hosts' 1-0 lead lasted until late in the opening period. The Gators then padded their cushion in the 38th minute to bring a two-goal advantage into the halftime break. 6:30 after play resumed, Sage made it a 3-0 game before tacking up its final tally with 9:09 left to go in the match.
