SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Southern Vermont College men's soccer team matched up against an undefeated Springfield College side Tuesday night at Brock-Affleck Field and was unable to put a blemish on the hosting Pride's record as the Mountaineers fell 4-0 in non-conference play.
Springfield, a team ranked seventh in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America Division III regional rankings, scored twice in the first half and added another pair in the final 45 minutes to walk out with its eighth victory of the year.
Southern Vermont falls to 3-4-1 on the season with the loss. The Mountaineers are next in action on Saturday, hosting Mitchell College for a 3 p.m. New England Collegiate Conference match during Southern Vermont's Fall Fest.
Mountaineer freshman keeper Chris Jimenez (Newark, N.J.) came up with seven saves in the loss (3-4-1) as the Pride racked up an 11-0 advantage in shots on goal.
The action was scoreless until 23:10 into the opening half when Springfield notched its first of the night. The hosts then added to their lead four minutes later to bring a 2-0 edge into the halftime break. The 74th minute of the match saw SC tally its third, and the Pride capped it with another just seven minutes later while keeping Southern Vermont off the board for their seventh shutout of the season.
