Men's Soccer Edged 1-0 at Bard in Non-conference Action

ANNANDAL-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – A lone first half goal proved to be enough for Bard College to knock off the visiting Southern Vermont College men's soccer team, defeating the Mountaineer 1-0 in a non-conference match at Lorenzo Ferrari Soccer Complex Wednesday night.

After conceding the goal, an injury forced Southern Vermont to play for about 70 minutes with just 10 men. The limited Mountaineer crew was still able to keep the Raptors from extending their lead and lost their third game of the season by a 1-0 score.

Bard sophomore captain Austin Higgins (Toms River, New Jersey) put home the eventual game winner at the 17:16 mark of the first half after getting on the end of a great through ball by freshman John Flynn (West Simsbury, Connecticut). It was the third goal of the season for Higgins and enough for the Raptors to win their third straight game.

BC freshman goalkeeper Taylor Bond (Pembroke, New Hampshire) posted his second shutout of the season, turning away four Mountaineer shots to move to 3-1 on the season in net. Southern Vermont freshman goalie Cody Gross (Fair Lawn, New Jersey) recorded eight saves in the losing effort (0-4).

The Mountaineers (0-4) turn to their home opener on Friday when Pine Manor College visits the SVC campus for a 4 p.m. kickoff while the Raptors (3-1) welcome State University of New York at Potsdam for a 12 p.m. start on Saturday.
