LYNDONVILLE, Vt. – A lone goal in the first half by Vermont Technical College was the difference-maker Sunday afternoon as the Knights defeated the Southern Vermont College men's soccer team 1-0 in the second day of the Lyndon State College Kick-Off Tournament at Lyndon Athletics Field.
Knight senior Joaquin Currier-Cubero (Danville, Vermont) scored the game-winning goal at 27:15 of the first half off a pass from freshman Yohan Avila (Barre, Vermont) from the right wing.
Junior Darian Calverley (Attleboro, Mass.) recorded his first win of the season (1-0-1) in the Vermont Tech goal while SVC freshman goalie Cody Gross (Fair Lawn, New Jersey) stopped eight shots in the loss (0-2).
The Mountaineers (0-2) look ahead to their 12 p.m. home opener Saturday, September 6 against the University of Maine at Fort Kent. Vermont Tech (1-0-1) next travels to Southern Maine Community College on Friday for a 4:30 p.m. kickoff.
