BENNINGTON, Vt. – Southern Vermont men’s soccer freshman Ruben Olivares (Pico Rivera, Calif.) has been selected as the New England Collegiate Conference’s Rookie of the Week for the week ending September 16, 2012.

                Olivares scored two goals in two contests for the Mountaineers, the first tallies of his collegiate career.

                The freshman midfielder scored his first of the week on Wednesday night in a tight 2-1 loss at The Sage Colleges.  He then added his second in a 5-1 loss at Wheaton College on Sunday.

                Olivares is currently tied for the most goals scored by a rookie in the NECC with two other players, both from Regis (Mass.).

                The Mountaineers return to the pitch on Wednesday at 4 p.m. when they host Green Mountain College.
