HENNIKER, N.H.— The SVC men's soccer team (0-4) was defeated, 1-0, Saturday afternoon at New England College (1-1-1).
The Pilgrims' Manny Arteaga (Norwalk, Conn.) would net a goal in the 61st minute for the eventual game-winner.
The two teams battled through a scoreless opening half of play, both teams putting up three shots.
The Pilgrims would break the scoreless streak early in the second half of play as Arteaga would put in a cross off the foot of Bienvenu Kanezu (Concord, N.H.) in the 61st minute. Each team would have scoring opportunities late in the game as NEC would edge Southern Vermont 8-6 in the second half of play.
Leading the way for Southern Vermont was Chris Hansen (Raymertown, Md.) who finished with three shots on net and Pierre Messena (West Milfrod, N.J.) registered two shots on goal.
Picking up the win in net for NEC was Corey Barbo (Yarmouthport, Mass.) who finished with three saves. Splitting time in net for Southern Vermont was Christopher Dunham (Valley Falls, N.Y.), who had two saves, and Brenden Shea (North Providence, R.I.) who stopped five shots.
SVC moves on to visit Sage on Wednesday; kickoff is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. The Pilgrims next face the University of New England at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.
