BOSTON, MA- The Newbury College men's soccer team came within six minutes of handing New England Collegiate Conference (NECC ) leading Southern Vermont College Mountaineers their first conference loss of the season. However the Mountaineers used a late goal to spoil Newbury's hopes as the two teams settled for a 3-3 tie. 
 
It did not take long for Southern Vermont to show why they are 5-0 in the conference. Junior midfielder Erik Argueta (Pico Rivera, Calif.) put the Mountaineers on the scoreboard 11 seconds in by firing a shot past Newbury keeper senior William McNally (Grafton, Mass.) on a penalty kick. McNally's classmate Tim Chatigny (Pelham, Mass.) tied up the score 15 minutes later on pass from Rodriquez Pierre (Somerville, Mass.).
 
Eight minutes later, Chatigny added an assist to his game résumé finding teammate junior attacker Hector Abudoj (Tegucigalpa, Honduras) to put the Nighthawks in front, 2-1. The lead did not last long however, as the conference's leading goal scorer Mountaineer senior Nick Haggerty (Wynantskill, N.Y.) knotted up the contest at two before halftime.
 
The score remained tied until late in the second period, when Junior midfielder Shaundize Moosavizadeh (Winchester, Mass.) gave the Nighthawks its second lead of the game. Pierre added an assist to his first half goal in the 77th minute. The Nighthawks defense kept the Mountaineers at bay until six minutes left to play in the game, Haggerty registered his 15th goal of the season firing a shot past McNally off a corner kick to tie up the game for the third time.
 
Both keepers were vital to their team through two overtimes. The reigning NECC Player of the Week, McNally stopped 11 of 14 shots-on goal while Mountaineer freshman keeper Connor Anniello (Scotland, Conn.) registered 14 saves.
 
Southern Vermont remains undefeated in conference play at 5-0-1 – 10-4-1 overall – while Newbury is 4-1-1 against conference opponents and 4-8-1 overall. Southern Vermont will host Lesley University in a crucial NECC matchup Monday.
