Men's Soccer Falls Short Against Eagles in NECC Play

NASHUA, N.H. – Junior forward Alex Jackson notched both goals including the conversion of a penalty kick in the second half breaking a scoreless tie and helping propel host Daniel Webster College past Southern Vermont College, 2-0 in a New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) men’s soccer matchup Sunday afternoon at Eagle Field.

Jackson potted his fourth and fifth of the season as the Eagles (4-3-1, 1-1 NECC) won their second straight, while the Mountaineers (4-6, 0-2 NECC) slid to their third straight loss.

Junior keeper Joe Keene made four saves for DWC while senior Aaron Eschler made 10 stops for Southern Vermont.

Daniel Webster controlled much of the tempo throughout, finishing with a 22-7 advantage in total shots including a 12-4 advantage on goal, limiting the Mountaineers to just three shots in the opening frame.

The Eagles broke through in the 55th minute when junior Spencer Bernard sent a long pass across from the right to left side, 20 yards in front of Eschler. Jackson took the feed, dribbled left and sent a low left-footed rope past a sprawling Eschler into the far right corner for the 1-0 lead.

Jackson would draw a penalty kick with 5:01 remaining from 10 yards out and beat Eschler low to the right side to help ice the victory.
