CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Lesley University remained perfect at 5-0-0 in New England Collegiate Conference men’s soccer play, improving to 14-1-1 overall with its 1-0 win over Southern Vermont in Saturday night's 9 p.m. start.
Ari Sinanis scored off of a deflected save at 21:13 for the
game’s only goal, his team-leading 10th of the season at
21:13. The score puts moves the sophomore into second place in the
league in goals behind only Southern Vermont's Nick Haggerty, whom
the Lynx defenders held in check on Saturday.
Lesley's offense, meanwhile, outshot the visitors 17-0 in the first
half with Southern Vermont goalkeeper Aaron Eschler making four
saves. Lesley had seven corners in the first half while
Southern Vermont only tallied one, but Eschler kept the
Mountaineers in the game throughout.
Twenty-one minutes into the second half, Eschler made a diving save
in Sinanis’ bid for his second goal of the day to keep the
Lynx to a 1-0 lead. Tim Penrod’s Mountaineers never mounted
any serious momentum, only testing Lynx goalkeeper Zachary
Almeida-Beers for two shots on goal in his second straight
shutout.
