ATTLEBORO, Mass.-Two-time NECC runner-up, the Lynx of Lesley University have claimed the top seed for the 2010 New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Men's Soccer Championship, which begins with semifinal matchups on campus sites Wednesday, November 3rd . The Lynx (15-2-0 overall) earned the top spot in the upcoming NECC tournament after posting a 6-1 conference record.
The 2009 champions, the Eagles of Daniel Webster College (10-5-1 overall) earned the #2 seed going 5-2-0 in conference play. The 2008 champions, the Becker College Hawks (10-7-1 overall) finished with a 5-2-0 conference record taking the #3 seed, while the Mitchell College Mariners (7-7-2 overall) earned the #4 seed with a 4-2-1 NECC finish.
Daniel Webster and Becker tied in conference standings at 5-2-0, but the Eagles defeated the Hawks in head-to-head play, earning the #2 seed.
Both the Southern Vermont Mountaineers (7-10-0 overall) and the Newbury College Nighthawks (4-13-0 overall) tied for fifth in conference action, each with a 3-4-0 record in 2010 play.
As specified in the NECC men's soccer championship guidelines, a two-way tie is broken first by head-to-head results. Southern Vermont defeated Newbury, thus earning the higher seed.
Both Lesley and Daniel Webster earned byes in the quarterfinal round on Wednesday, November 3rd. #6 Newbury will travel to #3 Becker in Leicester, Mass. for a 7:00 p.m. start. #5 Southern Vermont will travel to #4 Mitchell in New London, Conn. for a 2:00 p.m. start.
The semifinals will be held on Friday, November 5th and the 2010 NECC Championship match will take place on Sunday, November 7th at 1:00 p.m. The higher seeds earn the opportunity to host the semifinals and championship matches. All published times are subject to change.
