Men's Basketball Ranked 10th in NCAA DIII Northeast for Third Straight Week

BENNINGTON, Vt. — For the third straight week, the Southern Vermont College men’s basketball team has been ranked 10th in the NCAA Division III Northeast regional ranking.

The Mountaineers hold the position in the listing once again after finishing their regular season last week with a pair of New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) wins. Southern Vermont improved to 22-3 overall on the year while concluding league play at a perfect 16-0 for the second straight season.

SVC brings a 14-game winning streak into this weekend’s NECC postseason tournament which is set to have the semifinals and championship rounds hosted by Southern Vermont on Friday and Saturday. The top-seeded Mountaineers will face-off against No. 5 Regis College in a 2015 title game rematch on Friday at 6 p.m. in the first semi of the evening.

“Our guys are extremely focused and ready for a big weekend here at the MAC,” commented SVC third-year head coach Dan Engelstad who was selected as the HoopDirt.com DIII Coach of the Week on Monday. “We know the environment is going to be great.”

“At this point in the season, any team we play is going to be well coached,” Engelstad continued. “It’s an exciting time of the year and we look forward to playing the best teams in our league with the hopes of pushing the bar higher for our program.”
