BENNINGTON, Vt. — The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) announced its second batch of Division III regional rankings for the 2015-16 season on Wednesday with Southern Vermont College's men's basketball team keeping its claim to the 10th spot in the Northeast listing.
The Mountaineers extended their winning streak over the last week to 12 straight games, now sitting at 20-3 overall on the year and 14-0 in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) play. SVC wrapped up the NECC regular season championship with its last two victories, securing the No. 1 seed in the upcoming league playoffs for the second straight year. Southern Vermont will once again host the Conference's semifinal and championship rounds of the postseason on February 26 and 27.
"We're happy to stay on this list," commented SVC head coach Dan Engelstad. "We have a big week ahead of us as we try to finish out the regular season on a high note, playing against two of the stronger teams in our league."
The Mountaineers have two final regular season games to go, playing both of those at home over the next three days; SVC hosts Elms College on Thursday night at 7 p.m. before welcoming Daniel Webster College to the Mountaineer Athletic Center on Saturday for a 3 p.m. regular season finale. Saturday will also serve as Southern Vermont's Senior Day as the team will recognize and honor its five departing team members prior to tip-off.
"One of our goals was to clinch the regular season championship and host the playoffs," continued Engelstad. "We're happy that we accomplished those goals; we are hungry, but still humble, as we approach this exciting time of the year."
