Hamlet Tabbed NECC Men's Basketball Player of the Week

BENNINGTON, Vt. — The New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) announced its weekly award winners for the period ending January 10, 2016 on Monday with Southern Vermont College senior forward DeShawn Hamlet (Hartford, Conn.) collecting the Men's Basketball Player of the Week laurel.

Hamlet had a stellar week for SVC, averaging 28.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game while helping the Mountaineers stay perfect in NECC action. He had 20 points and five rebounds on Monday at Middlebury, and he then followed up with 37 points in a 103-87 Southern Vermont NECC home win against Mitchell on Saturday.

The senior tallied 12 rebounds against MC for his second double-double of the season, adding three steals and a block to his line against the Mariners. He went 15-22 from the floor, topping his previous career-best of 14 made field goals in a single game while falling just one point shy of his career-high 38 points.

This is the Hamlet's first Player of the Week honor this year and the fifth time in his SVC career that he's received the league's top weekly accolade.

Hamlet and the Mountaineers are right back in action on Tuesday when they host Newbury College for a 6 p.m. NECC matchup.
