Dan Engelstad Named HoopDirt.com DIII Coach of the Week

BENNINGTON, Vt. — Following the final games of the 2015-16 regular season, Southern Vermont College third-year head coach Dan Engelstad was selected as the HoopDirt.com Division III Coach of the Week for Week 14.

Engelstad led the Mountaineers to a 2-0 week, improving their winning streak to 14 games while finishing their second straight undefeated New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) schedule at 16-0. SVC is 22-3 heading into this week's NECC postseason tournament, hosting the semifinal and championship rounds on Friday and Saturday as the No. 1 seed.

"This is such a great honor and tribute to the outstanding coaching staff and players that I'm able to work with on a daily basis," noted Engelstad. "I'm really excited that we can be acknowledged on a national level."

With Thursday's 93-84 win over Elms College, Engelstad became the all-time winningest head coach for the SVC men's basketball program; he surpassed his predecessor and current Southern Vermont Director of Athletics Michael McDonough with a total of 62 victories in 79 games. Now with 63 wins after Saturday's big 110-57 downing of Daniel Webster College, Engelstad is just eight victories away from recording the most by any SVC head coach; the current mark of 70 is held by legendary coach, SVC/SJC Hall of Famer and 1979-94 Director of Athletics Bill Epstein who set it while leading the Southern Vermont baseball team from 1979-93.
