BENNINGTON, Vt. – The New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) announced its weekly winter awards Monday, and Southern Vermont College sophomore DeShawn Hamlet (Hartford, Conn.) garnered the Men’s Basketball Player of the Week laurel for the week ending Jan. 19, 2014. This is the second time this season he has picked up the accolade.
Hamlet averaged a double-double last week with 25.7 points and 11.7 boards in three games, helping the Mountaineers to a 2-1 mark. He recorded game-highs for points in each contest and added 3.0 steals and 1.7 blocks per game. The sophomore was 10-of-20 from the field en route to scoring 26 points in an overtime come-from-behind win over Daniel Webster on Tuesday.
The forward and the Mountaineers continue the NECC schedule Tuesday when they travel to Mitchell College for a 6 p.m. tip against the only undefeated team in the league (7-0).
