Antoine White, Dolapo Olugbile Named All-NECC Men's Basketball Honorable Mentions

BENNINGTON, Vt. – The Southern Vermont College men’s basketball had two players selected to the All-New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Team for the 2013-14 season as announced by the league on Monday. Sophomore captains Antoine White (Germantown, Md.) and Dolapo Olugbile (Laurel, Md.) were both named honorable mentions after helping the Mountaineers to the NECC postseason for the first time since 2011.

White helped facilitate the SVC offense and became the program’s single season assist leader this year, dishing out a total 117 helpers in 26 games; 85 of those came in NECC contests. He also averaged 6.3 points and 4.1 rebounds while shooting 40.2 percent in the 16 league games.

Olugbile was a force down low for the Mountaineers while also helping out on the offense end of things. He averaged 10.1 points per each of the 26 Southern Vt. games this season, 18.1 per 40 minutes of action. He shot 49.2 percent from the floor both in and out of conference and added 12 buckets from beyond the arc. The forward grabbed 6.2 rebounds per conference contest and pitched in with 24 assists, 23 steals and 22 blocks on the year.

“I’m proud of Antoine and Dolapo and their accomplishments this season,” commented first year head coach Dan Engelstad. “They represent our school and program to the fullest, and I’m excited to see our team flourish under their leadership.”

Mitchell College senior forward Joshua Ford (Jersey City, N.J.) was selected the NECC Player of the Year for the second straight season while Regis College freshman Sam Jean-Gilles (Melrose, Mass.) took home the Rookie of the Year accolade. Mitchell head coach Todd Peretz was honored by his peers as the league’s Coach of the Year, and Wheelock College was given the Team Sportsmanship Award.
