LEICESTER, Mass. – Becker College defeated Southern Vermont College 64-51 in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) men's basketball action Tuesday evening at the Leicester Gymnasium.

The win lifts the Hawks record to 5-5 (2-0 NECC), while the Mountaineers fall to 7-4 (1-1 NECC).

The Mountaineers were paced by sophomore forward DeShawn Hamlet (Hartford, Conn.) who recorded a team-high 17 points and game-high 12 rebounds. Freshman guard Rayshawn Taylor (Silver Spring, Md.) chipped in with 15 points and six rebounds, and junior forward Izzy Melton (Silver Spring, Md.) added seven points and four boards off the bench.

Becker was led by David Maturah (Windsor Locks, Conn.) with a game-high 19 points, going seven-for-10 from the floor. Rashaun Liggon (Elizabeth, N.J.), Donovin Ford-Hayes (Windsor Locks, Conn.), and Tyler Roberson (Irvington, N.J.) finished with eight points each while Darius Sealy (Cambridge, Mass.) dished out a game-high five assists.

BC shot 54.2 percent from the floor in the opening stanza, opposed to SVC's 16.7 percent. That created a 35-18 deficit that Southern Vermont would be unable to overcome, despite outscoring the Hawks 33-29 in the second half.

The Mountaineers held a 40-29 advantage on the boards, but Becker finished with a 44.9 percent clip from the field for the win.

The Mountaineers now gear up for a Thursday home game for which they welcome Newbury College (7 p.m.), and Becker continues its home stand with an 8 p.m. tip on Thursday against Regis College.
