Spratling Reaches 1,000 Point Milestone SVC MBB Stumps Mariners

BENNINGTON, Vt. – Senior guard Lance Spratling reached the 1000-point milestone as he tallied 32 points to lift the Southern Vermont College Mountaineers over New England Collegiate Conference opponent the Mariners of Mitchell College 91-71 Thursday night in the MAC. Spratling came into the game with 980 points and easy passed into the 1000-point club in the second half of what became a four game winning streak for SVC.

The Mountaineers improve to 9-5 overall (3-1 in the NECC), while the Mariners fall to 1-12 overall (0-4 in the NECC).

Down 9-5 after six minutes of play the Mountaineers went on a decisive 10-0 run to take the lead. With 5:50 left in the game SVC found itself with a comfortable 36-15 lead. SVC out-scored MC 42-30 in the first half behind 18 points by Spratling.

The Mountaineers continued to score in the second half and did not let the Mariners cut the lead closer than eight points.
Junior guard Taeshon Johnson scored 27 points and forward Ben Naaktgeboren tallied yet another double-double with 16 points and 17 rebounds for SVC.

Guards Mercury Fiske and Tim Quinn led the Mariners scoring with 18 points and 11 points respectively.

The Mountaineers shot 50.7% (36-71) from the field and 54.5% (6-11) from three point range in what was the team's best shooting night of 2010-2011.

SVC is back in action when it travels to NECC foe Lesley University Saturday, January 15th, for an 8:00 p.m. tip-off.
