Union MBB Stifles Mountaineer Comeback, 76-60

BENNINGTON, Vt. – The Southern Vermont College men's basketball team lost to the visiting Union College Dutchman 76-60 Thursday night at the MAC. SVC cut a 16 point Union halftime lead to only five but could fight off the Dutchman in the end. The Mountaineers were led by Deshawn Hamlet who finished with a game-high 26 points.

SVC falls to 5-5, while UC improves to 3-1 overall.

Guards Joe Mason and Justin Gallo led the Dutchman with 15 and 14 points respectively.

Forward Ben Naaktgeboren and guard Jorge Jorge rounded out the Mountaineer box score with 14 and 10 points.

Union out-rebounded (40-29) SVC, committed less turnovers (15-13) than Southern Vermont, and shot 80% (SVC shot 35.7%) from the charity stripe to win its third game of the year.

The Mountaineers wrap up the first part of the season when it travels to Mitchell College foe an NECC showdown on Saturday, December 11th. The game is slated for a 3:00 p.m. tip-off.
