BABSON PARK, Mass. – The New England Basketball Coaches Association (NEBCA), founded in 1936, has announced that Southern Vermont College senior tri-captain Joe Karnik of Castleton, N.Y. has been named to play in its annual Division III Senior All-Star Game this Sunday, April 18, at Babson College, with all proceeds benefitting the Coaches vs. Cancer campaign.
The 6'6" Karnik joins three other Mountaineers, Lydale Waller (2003), Chris Matte (2007) and Nick Harrington (2008) in being named to the annual classic.
Karnik completed his stellar Southern Vermont career scoring 1,176 points and grabbing 637 rebounds. He was a New England Conference First Team All Conference selection in both his junior and senior seasons. He notched career highs of 36 points vs. Stevenson University and 24 rebounds vs. Sage College this season.
Karnik joins three other NECC selections in the all star game, and players from two Vermont schools, Rui Carmo (Green Mountain College) and Tim Edwards (Middlebury College).
Many of the participants will continue their basketball careers professionally overseas. The rosters were selected by several committees made up of area college coaches and are being released by Stephen Brennan, the NEBCA President.
The teams will play at Staake Gymnasium on the campus of Babson College in Wellesley, Massachusetts this Sunday, April 18 at 1:00pm. Admission into the game is free.
