MARSHFIELD, Mass. – The New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) announced its first Baseball Player of the Week award for the 2019 season on Monday with Southern Vermont College senior Ryan Serrato (Whittier, Calif.) taking home the accolade.
The honor was in recognition of all games played by league teams through March 3.
Serrato had a stellar start to the season as he went 5-6 with a pair of walks through two games at SUNY Maritime on February 23. The first baseman launched a two-run homer the opposite way in his first plate appearance as a Mountaineer, and he followed with back-to-back doubles in the doubleheader's opener before getting intentionally walked with the go-ahead run at second in the seventh inning. Serrato then went 2-3 with a walk and a run scored in game two.
The senior totaled a 1.667 slugging percentage, three RBI's, two runs scored, and 10 total bases to begin the year, and he was perfect in the field through 16 total chances. Serrato was then named to the D3baseball.com Team of the Week on February 26.
Serrato and the Mountaineers are back in action this upcoming Saturday with a doubleheader against SUNY Old Westbury at Baseball Heaven.
