MARSHFIELD, Mass. – Southern Vermont College senior first baseman Ryan Serrato (Whittier, Calif.) had an absolutely amazing eight-game stretch for the Mountaineers recently, and he was awarded for his efforts on Monday by getting selected as the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Baseball Player of the Week for the period ending March 24, 2019.
The league accolade is the second for Serrato this year after he picked up the Conference's first Player of the Week honor for the season back on March 4.
Serrato registered hits in each of the first seven games of the week to extend his hitting streak to 12-straight, and he turned in a .606 (20-33) batting average through the eight total contests. Additionally, the senior had 15 RBI's, 15 runs scored, and a .649 on-base percentage.
He also posted an .879 slugging percentage after notching four doubles, a triple, and a home run. Serrato struck out only three times in his 37 total plate appearances, and he committed just two errors through 51 total chances in the field (.961 fielding percentage).
Serrato was joined in collecting league recognition by classmate Joe Braim (Saratoga, N.Y.) who was tabbed the NECC Pitcher of the Week.
Serrato, Braim, and the Mountaineers are now off until Saturday when they're scheduled to open up Conference action with a 12 p.m. doubleheader against Newbury College at the New England Baseball Complex.
