Braim Tabbed ECAC Corvias DIII New England Rookie of the Week

BENNINGTON, Vt. — A day after being named the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Baseball Rookie of the Week, Southern Vermont College freshman Joe Braim (Schuylerville, N.Y.) was selected as the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Corvias Division III New England Rookie of the Week for the period ending April 3, 2016.

The Tuesday announcement marks the first ECAC honor for SVC this season and the second rookie accolade in as many years for the team. The Mountaineer was tabbed with the NECC laurel after having a great two games for Southern Vermont last week, supporting the squad from both the pitching rubber and first base.

"I'm proud of his work ethic," commented Southern Vermont head coach Dave Gage. "He continues to work hard in the cage, and he continues to work hard on the mound. This really shows that hard work paying off."

Braim registered his first collegiate win from the hill last Wednesday at Eastern Nazarene College, working a strong eight innings with the start to help SVC record its first-ever win over the Lions in four all-time meetings; he allowed just one run on eight hits in his appearance, striking out four ENC batters during the outing.

The Southern Vermont freshman then helped the Mountaineers go 2-0 on the week to extend their winning streak to four games, turning in a 2-for-3 performance from the batter's box in a 16-4 victory at Mass. College of Liberal Arts. He tallied a double in that showing while scoring a run and knocking in two others. Braim was also perfect at first against the Trailblazers, converting on each of the seven total chances he had at the corner defensively.
