BENNINGTON, Vt. — Southern Vermont College sophomore John Arancio (Oradell, N.J.) has been named the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Baseball Player of the Week for the period ending March 27, 2016 as announced by the league on Monday.
Arancio was stellar in helping Southern Vermont go 2-0 in league play last week as the team grabbed its first two NECC wins of the year. He tallied a .714 batting average (5-7), his first collegiate home run aiding in the sophomore slugging at a 1.143 clip. He also worked a walk at Daniel Webster College on Friday to turn in a .778 on base percentage for the week.
In a big win over Mitchell College on Wednesday, Arancio was 4-for-5 with three runs and two RBIs, scoring the tying run in the bottom of the seventh before SVC took a lead it would never relinquish. He then followed with the first run at DWC on Friday, crossing the plate with what proved to be the game-winning score in the top of the second.
The sophomore and the Mountaineers return to action with five games this week, the first being at Eastern Nazarene College on Wednesday with a 3:30 p.m. non-conference first pitch.
