Pingitore Selected as NECC Baseball Player of the Week

BENNINGTON, Vt. — The New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) announced Sunday night its second batch of weekly baseball award winners with Southern Vermont College junior second baseman RJ Pingitore (Amsterdam, New York) being named the league’s Player of the Week for the week ending March 21, 2015.

Pingitore was electric at the plate in the Mountaineers' visit to Florida last week, hitting .524 across five games in the Sunshine State. He also recorded a .565 on-base percentage and a .714 slugging percentage while helping SVC go 3-2 in the week, notching the team's best spring trip winning percentage ever. The junior knocked in eight runs and scored another six while swiping two bags on the base paths. He recorded the walk-off game-winning hit in the bottom of the seventh over Crown on Monday and followed with his second home run of the season on Tuesday. Pingitore made only one error on 21 total chances for a .952 fielding percentage at second, being part of three double plays in the middle infield. This is his second career Player of the Week honor after being recognized as such once last season.

The Mountaineer junior was joined in collecting weekly accolades by freshman right-hander Jean-Carlos Berasgoico (New York, New York) who picked up the NECC Pitcher of the Week laurel.

The Mountaineers are back in action this week with a Wednesday non-conference game at Eastern Nazarene College (11 a.m.) before starting the NECC slate with a weekend series at Newbury College.
