ATTLEBORO, Mass. – All six sponsored programs were represented on 2010 New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Baseball All-Conference Team, it was announced today by Commissioner Del Malloy. In addition to the All-NECC honors, four separate major individual award winners and the team sportsmanship award were also voted upon and selected this week.
Mitchell College junior third baseman Jeff Perillo (Newington, Conn.), a sport management major, was named the 2010 NECC Baseball Player of the Year. In conference play, Perillo grabbed the batting title leading the way with a .551 average, a .918 slugging percentage and a .548 on-base percentage. He also leads in doubles (14), ranks third in hits (44) and third in home runs (4). Perillo played and started in all 15 contests, having multiple hits in eight contests and hitting safely in all but one conference game.
Fellow Mariner and senior pitcher Jeremy Chapman (Waterford, Conn.) nabbed the 2010 NECC Baseball Pitcher of the Year for his 5-0 record in conference play. Chapman, a sport management major, led the NECC with an amazing 1.03 ERA for his 35.0 innings pitched. In conference play, he hurled two shutouts and finished all five games allowing only a mere seven runs on 17 hits while fanning 51 batters and walking just 13 in conference play. Not only is Chapman leading the NECC in pitching stats, he is currently on top of the leader board among all NCAA Division III pitchers in ERA and hits allowed per nine innings.
Daniel Webster College freshman outfielder Darrik Marstaller (Spofford, N.H.) was awarded the 2010 NECC Baseball Rookie of the Year for his first season of collegiate play. Marstaller, a gaming design and development major, played and started in all 15 conference games finishing with a .362 batting average. Marstaller had a .586 slugging percentage with 21 hits, 15 runs, 16 RBI, 12 stolen bases, five doubles, two triples and two home runs. Defensively, he was near perfect with only one error, claiming a .957 fielding percentage and 21 putouts and one assist.
The Daniel Webster Eagles took top honors as they finished 11-4
in conference play earning the top seed for the 2010 NECC Baseball

J.P. Pyne was named the 2010 NECC Baseball Coach
of the Year. Pyne won the honors last year as well. He led the
Eagles to an 18-14 overall record.
The Nighthawks of Newbury, led by head coach Gregory
Sullivan, were honored as the 2010 NECC Team Sportsmanship
Award recipients. The Nighthawks finished the season 6-26 overall
and 4-11 in conference. This is a repeat honor for the Nighthawks
taking the inaugural sportsmanship award last season.
Voting for the All-NECC team and each of the major awards was
conducted among all NECC Baseball coaches.
Joining Perillo, Chapman and Marstaller on first team were

Becker’s junior (SS) Keith Kandel (Fresno, Calif.);

Mitchell’s sophomore (OF) Ethan Graynor (Leonia, N.J.);
Daniel Webster’s sophomore (P) Kory Kiro (Goffstown, N.H.);
Southern Vermont’s sophomore (C) Eric Wells and
Newbury’s sophomore (DH)Joseph Guidi (Derry, N.H.).
Five players were named honorable mention including Becker’s freshman (2B) Austin Phillips (Thomson, Ga.); Daniel Webster’s junior (3B) Bruce Brown (Lowell, Mass.); Elms junior (3B) Brendan Cordeiro (Berkley, Mass.); Newbury’s sophomore (C) Pat Curry (Hamstead, N.H.) and Southern Vermont’s junior (DH) Dan Cook (Watervliet, N.Y.).
