NASHUA, N.H. - NASHUA, N.H. - The Southern Vermont College baseball team was swept by NECC foe the Eagles of Daniel Webster College 6-5 in game one and 7-3 in game two Saturday afternoon. The Eagles improved to 15-12 (8-3 NECC), while SVC dropped to 10-17 overall (4-7 NECC).
Game three of the weekend series shifts to Bennington, Vt. on Sunday with the first pitch slated for 11:00 a.m.
Kilgore laced a one-out single in the last of the seventh in the opener scoring Zach Cantor from second after the Eagles had rallied from a 5-3 deficit by plating two in the bottom of the sixth to tie it.
Cantor, who had two hits, had helped DWC pull ahead with a run-scoring single to plate Chris McKenzie in the second after Chuck Manning had singled home Nick Michaud for a 2-1 lead.
After the Eagles added an unearned run in the third aided by an infield error, the Mountaineers tied it with two in the fourth on an error and passed ball and went ahead in the sixth on a two-run single from Brett Pawlak scoring Keith Diotte and Dave Gage, who had two hits.
DWC had tied it at five in the sixth as Bruce Brown singled and later scored when Rich Lizotte’s single turned into a three base error in the outfield. Lizotte would then come home on a wild pitch.
Lizotte earned the win on the mound (3-1) tossing one inning of three-strikeout relief of starter Kory Kiro.
Ben Naaktgeboren took the loss (1-4).
In the nightcap, the Eagles plated an unearned run in the second and created some distance with a four-run third, tacking on two in the fourth, while SVC put up three in the top of the fourth.
Kilgore notched singles in each of his first three plate appearances, while Lizotte had two hits, Darrik Marstaller doubled and Cantor added a triple.
Noah Shaw earned the win (2-0) allowing one earned run on two hits over four innings striking out three and walking five.
Skyler Gregorek earned his first save scattering three hits over the final three frames, striking out two and walking one.
Connor Murray took the loss (0-4). Gage led the SVC offense with two hits including a double and knocked in one.
Leading 1-0 heading into the third, the Eagles took control as Josh Chasse singled, Marstaller walked, and Kilgore singled to score Chasse moving Marstaller to third.
Kilgore and Marstaller then combined for a double steal for a 3-0 game and Lizotte followed with another single and Cantor tripled to complete the rally.
SVC tightened things in the fourth as walked, advanced on a wild pitch, stole third and scored on an error, Diotte scored on a Gage single and Gage came home on another error.
But the Eagles iced it in the bottom of the fourth as Marstaller doubled home Chasse and later scored on Kilgore’s third hit of the game.
