  • Gage Named To The Winter/Spring NECC Academic All-Conference

    BENNINGTON, Vt. - Southern Vermont College Student-Athlete junior second baseman David Gage of the Mountaineers baseball squad was recently named to the Winter/Spring NECC Academic All-Conference. To be eligible a student-athlete must post a minimum grade point average of 3.40 on a scale of 4.00 and must be a junior or higher in class standings.

    ATTLEBORO, Mass. – All six sponsored programs were represented on 2009 New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Baseball All-Conference Team, it was announced today by Commissioner Del Malloy. In addition to the All-NECC honors, four separate major individual award winners and the team sportsmanship award were also voted upon and selected this week.

    BENNINGTON, Vt. - The Inaugural New England Collegiate Conference Baseball Championship Playoffs kicked off Friday morning with the Southern Vermont College Mountaineers rallying in the bottom of the ninth of game one to win 11-10. SVC scored three runs to slip past the Mitchell College Mariners with the winning run coming on a catcher interference with the bases loaded.

    BENNINGTON, Vt. – Southern Vermont College has claimed the top seed for the 2009 New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Baseball Championship, which begins the morning of Friday, May 1 in Bennington, Vt. The Mountaineers (11-24 overall) earned the top spot in the upcoming NECC tournament after posting a 7-3 conference record.

    BENNINGTON, Vt. – The Southern Vermont College baseball team hosted NECC foe Becker College Saturday splitting with the Hawks in a 11-5 win in game one and a 6-4 loss in game two. Freshman Eric Wells (Athens, Pa.) crushed three home runs for the Mountaineers finishing the day batting 5-for-6 with four RBI, three runs scored, and two walks.

    BENNINGTON, Vt – The Southern Vermont College baseball team came from behind in a non-conference game against SUNY Cobleskill Thursday to win 12-5 at Epstein Field. SVC long ball was a big factor in the decision as sophomore captain Adam Northup (Richmond, R.I.) crushed two bombs over the fence going 2-for-2 with a walk, a sac fly while knocking in six RBI.

    ROOKIE OF THE WEEK - Southern Vermont College freshman outfielder Pat Warrington (Folcroft, Pa.) batted .391 (9-for-23) with a two-run homer, four RBI and four runs scored as the Mountaineers finished with a 1-5 weekly mark.

    PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The Southern Vermont College baseball squad was swept by Plymouth State University in a non-conference doubleheader 9-5 and 6-5 (8 innings) on Sunday afternoon. The Mountaineers came back late in the second game only to give up two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning for the loss.

    NASHUA, N.H. – The Southern Vermont baseball team split a New England Collegiate Conference doubleheader with the Daniel Webster College Eagles in a 10-7 loss and a 8-3 win Saturday at Harvey Woods Field. The last time the Mountaineers won nine games in a season was in 1989 under Coach Bill Epstein in which the Southern Vermont field is named after.

    BENNINGTON, Vt. – The Southern Vermont baseball team split a New England Collegiate Conference doubleheader with Elms College at Epstein Field Saturday afternoon. The Mountaineers dominated the first game winning 8-5 with the help of Captain Dan Cook’s (Watervliet, N.Y.) three run homer in the first inning. SVC faced EC’s ace in the second game falling 10-2.

    BENNINGTON, Vt. – The Southern Vermont baseball team has a few bash brothers of its own in Pat Warrington (Folcroft, Pa.) and Eric Wells (Athens, Pa.) as the pair takes home New England Collegiate Conference Awards for the second straight week. Warrington was named the NECC Player of the Week while Wells was named the NECC Rookie of the Week as the duo had their way with every pitcher they faced.

    NEW LONDON, Conn. - SVC Baseball swept NECC foe Mitchell College on the Mariners turf in a Conference doubleheader Sunday winning 6-3 and 10-8. Junior Eric Gardner (Thompson, Conn.) had a breakout day as he went 4-for-7 with two RBI's at the plate while the hot bats of Pat Warrington (Folcroft, Pa.) and Eric Wells (Athens, Pa.) continued to generate SVC runs.

Pat Warrington who is batting .400, went 2-for-3 in the loss that gives the Mountaineers a 5-14 record overall.

    MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The Southern Vermont baseball team lost a close one on the road when Erich Enns of Middlebury singled with the bases loaded and two out in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Panthers an 8-7 win over the Mountaineers. Pat Warrington (Folcraft, Pa.) went 3-for-4 and Brett Pawlak (Shelton, Conn.) had a 3-for-5 day for SVC.

Freshman catcher Eric Wells had a monster day by going 3-for-5 with two home runs and four RBIs. Wells also caught freshman Will Warner's complete game win.

    PITCHER OF THE WEEK – Southern Vermont College junior Eric Wells (Athens, Pa.) tossed nine shutout innings and struck out 11 batters in a 7-0 complete game victory over in-state rival Vermont Tech. Wells scattered nine hits and did not walk a single batter. Wells also paid dividends at the plate throughout the week, batting .727 (8-for-11) with two RBI, sparking the Mountaineers to a 4-1 weekly record.

Sophomore captain Dan Cook (Watervliet, N.Y.), freshman Pat Warrington (Folcroft, Pa.) and freshman Andrew Morin (Hoosick Falls, N.Y.) were all 2 for 4 on the day with a run scored.

Freshman Eric Wells (Athens, Pa.), sophomore Adam Northup (Richmond, R.I.), sophomore Dave Gage (Gloversville, N.Y.), and freshman Roger Manning (Southbury, Conn.) each had three hits for the Mountaineers who tallied 20 hits total.
