Bennington, VT-The Southern Vermont College baseball team split a four-game over the weekend with the Owls of the University of Maine Presque Isle (UMPI). The green and white won by scores of 16-3 and 15-13, but fell 7-6 and 13-6.
Seniors Steve Nappi (Portland, ME) and Dan Bosely (Keene, NH) picked up the win in their final career starts on the bump. Adam Northup (Richmond, RI) picked up his first career save. The freshman came out of the pen twice to shut down the Owls.
There were numerous hitting stars, but none shone quite as bright as freshman catcher Dan Cook (Watervliet, NY). The backstop recorded 11 hits, and hit .647 on the weekend. In addition he scored seven runs, and knocked home six more. Classmate Dave Gage (Gloversville, NY) registered a triple, two doubles, and scored six runs. He was hit six times over the weekend. Freshman outfielder Will Foland (Averill Park, NY) totaled nine RBIs. Sophomore shortstop Brett Pawlak (Ansonia, CT) scored nine runs over the weekend. The Mountaineers finished the season with a 7-26 record.
