Christopher Nicastro Jr. became an assistant coach for the Mountaineers’ baseball club in January of 2016. A 2015 graduate of Southern Vermont, Nicastro is quite familiar with the SVC program after being a four-year starter for the Mountaineers and three-year captain of the team for Coach Gage. He finished his Southern Vermont career with the third-most games played (138) and third-most hits (140) in program history. He also sits at fifth for the most all-time stolen bases at SVC with 36. Nicastro was voted as an All-New England Collegiate Conference Honorable Mention in 2014 and was selected as the NECC Player of the Week once in 2013.

Nicastro mostly played shortstop while at Southern Vermont, tallying a .295 batting average at the plate with 28 doubles, 85 runs scored, and 66 RBIs. He also worked 41 walks from the batter’s box and knocked out three home runs.

Upon graduating from SVC with his degree in criminal justice, Nicastro received Southern Vermont’s first-ever paid professional contract as he went to Virginia to play for the VMarlins organization in the World Baseball Pro League. He is currently a part-time hitting instructor at AllStars Academy in Latham, N.Y. and works primarily as a security guard in Saratoga, N.Y.
