Josh Ceasar Named NECC Rookie of the Week

BENNINGTON, Vt. – Southern Vermont College men's cross country runner Josh Ceasar (Bardstown, Ky.) was named as the New England Collegiate Conference Rookie of the Week for the week ending September 23, 2012.

Ceasar led the Mountaineers for the third-straight week while finishing 8th in the 48-runner field at the 2012 Mountaineer Invitational.  He came in with a time of 32:38 for the 8K mountain-side course.

The rookie runner implemented a plan designed by Mountaineer coach Maria Stuber, slowly working his way up the field throughout the race. After the first mile, he was in 29th place. He continued to press along the gruelling course until being within eyeshot of seventh; he finished just two second behind SUNY Canton's Zach Doyle (Oneonta, N.Y.).

Head coach Maria Stuber said of Ceasar, "He has been a pleasure to work with. He is talented, coachable and already a team leader. We have been working him hard the past few weeks and he is responding to the training load very well. You can expect big things from Josh come October, and even bigger things over the next four years."

Ceasar will start to look ahead to this Saturday's Vermont State Championships, being held at Lyndon State College.
