Annika Kristiansen Reels in Second NECC Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week Award

annika kristiansen named necc runner of the week

ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Southern Vermont College reeled in its third New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week award this season as Bennington College senior Annika Kristiansen (Keene, N.H.) took claim to the honor on Monday for the period ending October 15, 2017.

Kristiansen came through an interesting line for SVC at Saturday's Western New England University Golden Bear Invitational as the mismarked course saw the participants run an extra 380 meters on the scheduled 6,000 meter landscape. She finished first for the Mountaineers with an adjusted time of 25:15; that was 13 seconds faster than her previous time on a 6K course and moved her up to fifth on Southern Vermont's all-time record list for the distance.

The accolade is Kristiansen's fourth Runner of the Week award of her career.

SVC swept the women's cross country awards for the third time this year as first-year junior runner Maddy Main (Bennington, Vt.) was named the NECC Rookie of the Week. She finished in the team's top three for the first time on Saturday as she tallied an adjusted 30:15 (8:38/mile).

Kristiansen and the Mountaineers are off this weekend as they prepare for the NECC Championship which is slated for Saturday, October 28 at Stanley Park in Westfield, Mass.
