BENNINGTON, Vt. – Southern Vermont College first-time senior runner Jordan Welch (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) has been named the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Women's Cross Country Rookie of the Week for the period ending September 18, 2016 as announced by the league on Monday.

Welch, who wasn't able to run last weekend, had a great showing at the Johnson State Invitational this past Saturday. She helped SVC take third as a team with a new personal best, coming through at 26:03 for a time 1:47 better than her season-opening mark from September 3. The senior rookie had a pace of 8:24 per mile to collect her first career NECC accolade.

Welch and the Mountaineers are back in action this upcoming Saturday, September 24 at Williams College's Purple Valley Classic to be held at Mount Greylock Regional High School with a 1 p.m. start.
