BENNINGTON, Vt. — Southern Vermont College junior captain Shelby Whitman (Bennington, Vt.) has been named the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week for the period ending October 18, 2015 as announced by the league on Monday.
Whitman had a great run on Saturday, taking 49 seconds off the time of her last race for a season best. She finished first for the Mountaineers and 16th overall, posting a split time of 6:37 per mile on the 5k WNE Golden Bear Invitational course for a total mark of 20:34. This marks the third time this year that she's received the league laurel and the seventh for her career.
The SVC junior was joined in receiving Conference accolades by junior Justin Ferguson (Broadalbin, N.Y.) who was selected as the NECC Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week, Bennington College freshman Noah Froh (Milwaukee, Wis.) who was tabbed the NECC Men's Cross Country Rookie of the Week, and BC sophomore Annika Kristiansen (Keene, N.H.) who was honored as the NECC Women's Cross Country Rookie of the Week.
Both Southern Vermont teams are back in action this Saturday, October 24 with a collective men's and women's 5k at Williams' Plansky Invitational, the last race before the NECC Championship takes place October 31.
