BENNINGTON, Vt. - The New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) announced its weekly award winners Monday for the period ending September 7, 2014 with Southern Vermont College sophomore Shelby Whitman (Bennington, Vermont) being honored as the NECC Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week.

Whitman ran well in her first race as a Mountaineer, finishing first for her team at the Castleton State Invitational on Sunday. She crossed the line at 22:56, good enough for 13th overall in the meet.

The sophomore and her team now prepare for the Mountaineer Invitational on Saturday at the Southern Vermont campus, race time scheduled for 11 a.m.
