BENNINGTON, Vt. - For the second time this season, Southern Vermont College sophomore Shelby Whitman (Bennington, Vermont) has been named the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week, this time for the period ending October 5, 2014 as announced by the league on Monday.

Whitman set a new personal record, finishing the 5000 meter Keene State College Invitational course at 20:49 on Saturday. That propelled her up to third on the SVC all-time 5K record list, just 42 seconds behind the program's top mark of 20:07 set by head coach Kathleen Newton back in 2002. This is the second time for Whitman to receive an NECC Runner of the Week honor this season as she was also awarded on September 8.

No Mountaineers will be receiving any conference recognition next week as the two teams take this weekend off to recover and prepare for the Western New England University Golden Bear Invitational taking place next Saturday, October 18.
