ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Southern Vermont College claimed the New England Collegiate Conference Women's Volleyball Rookie of the Week honor for the week ending September 24, 2017 as Bennington College freshman Kemly Derby (New York City, N.Y.) picked up the accolade on Monday.

Derby played a big role in SVC's first win of the season on Saturday as the rookie notched four kills, 10 digs, and six blocks during a 3-2 Mountaineer victory at SUNY Cobleskill.

She averaged 1.5 digs per set through four matches on the week after notching five against Castleton University in Southern Vermont's home opener on Wednesday. The Bennington freshman registered three digs, three assists, and two kills in SVC's earlier Saturday contest against Lancaster Bible College during the Cobleskill tri-match.

Derby and the Mountaineers are back in action on Friday when they host Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts for a 7 p.m. first serve.
