BENNINGTON, Vt. — The New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) announced its weekly award winners for the period ending October 11, 2015 on Monday with Southern Vermont College freshman Alycia Stevens (Hudson Falls, N.Y.) being honored as the Women’s Volleyball Rookie of the Week.
Stevens helped SVC win its first Conference match on Saturday, registering 15 kills and 15 digs against Mitchell for her fourth double-double of the year. The freshman averaged 2.88 kills and 3.38 digs per set over the week while providing five service aces in the league victory. She tallied six kills in an opening game against the Mariners in which Southern Vermont won 25-18 and then went on to add four more late in the decisive fifth set to help seal the NECC triumph.
The rookie honor is the first for an SVC player since October 15 of 2012.
Stevens and the Mountaineers are back in league action on Wednesday when they visit Becker College for a 7 p.m. first serve.
