Women's Volleyball Set to Play Williams in NCAA Tournement

BENNINGTON, Vt. – The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) announced Monday the seedings, matchups and host locations for the 2013 Women's Volleyball Championship with Southern Vermont College taking the No. 8 seed in the New England Regional.

SVC enters into the 64-team tournament with an automatic qualifying bid after winning the New England Collegiate Conference Championship last weekend.

The Mountaineers are set to travel to nearby Williams College for a Friday night 8 p.m. first round contest. The Ephs are hosting the New England Regional as the No. 1 seed after winning the New England Small College Athletic Conference for the first time since 2009.

Southern Vermont returns to the NCAAs for the third-straight year, going 12-8 through the 2013 regular season and conference tournament. Williams will enter Friday's contest with a 25-4 mark, one of those wins coming earlier in the year at home against SVC; The Ephs took down the Mountaineers 3-0 back on October 15.

Looking to build upon the team's 2012 performance during which SVC won its first-ever set in an NCAA match in a Regional tilt against Middlebury College  first-year head coach Deon Jones is now focused on getting his team prepared for the rematch in Williamstown. "Hopefully we can go in there and give [Williams] a better fight than last time," said Jones. "The team is excited and plans to practice hard this week. We're going to focus on limiting our errors and controlling the ball better than we did the last time we played them."

The volleyball regional has also caused a location change in the annual Williams Tip-Off Basketball Tournament, originally scheduled for Friday night and Saturday afternoon at WC; details for the Southern Vermont versus Williams men's basketball game on Friday are still to be determined.
