Women's Volleyball Rolls On in NECC with 3-0 Win at Becker

LEICESTER, Mass. – Moving closer to a New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) postseason birth, the Southern Vermont College women's volleyball team defeated Becker College on the road Wednesday night 3-0 in league play.

The Mountaineers move to 4-0 in the NECC (7-6 overall) as they won the match with set scores of 25-12, 25-17, and 25-21. It is the first time Southern Vermont is above .500 since SVC was 1-0 to start the season. Becker falls to 2-15 on the year, 0-4 in the conference.

Southern Vermont junior Marissa Flores (Azusa, Calif.) tied her season-high in kills with 16 (August 30 vs. Norwich) in two less sets while hitting four errors on 29 swings for a .414 percentage. Junior Jessica Delgado (Los Angeles, Calif.) followed with nine to go along with her 10 digs, two service aces and two solo blocks.

Sophomore setter Sheilani Kaleopa (Riverside, Calif.) assisted on 39 of the 40 Mountaineer kills, and senior libero Vanessa Ruelas (Paramount, Calif.) totaled a match-high 13 digs for the visitors. The best offensive set of the night came from SVC in the second when it hit 15 kills and only five errors on 25 attack attempts for a .400 hitting percentage, the best game percentage the team has hit all season.

Jacqueline Chila (Monroe, Conn.) and Marissa Turner (Coventry, R.I.) had four kills each for the Hawks. Lauren LaVallee (Millbury, Mass.) tallied 12 assists in the losing effort.

Both teams return to the court on Saturday, October 12 with the Mountaineers hosting NECC foe Mitchell College at 4:30 p.m. while the Hawks play a tri-match at Wentworth against Pine Manor College (1 p.m.) and the Leopards (3 p.m.).
