Women's Volleyball Taken 3-0 at Middlebury

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – In a rematch of last year's NCAA Regional women's volleyball matchup, Southern Vermont College fell at Middlebury College 3-0 Thursday night in non-conference play.

The Panthers won the match with game scores of 25-12, 25-17, and 25-6.

Tied at 1-1 in the opening set, Middlebury ran off six-straight points to take a 7-1 lead. The Panthers later led 13-8 before going on a five-point spurt to give them an 18-8 advantage as they cruised to the 25-12 game win.

The second set was tight with Middlebury leading 15-9 before the Mountaineers came within two at 18-16. A 4-0 run gave the Panthers the lead as they came away with the set, 25-17.

The third set was all Middlebury as they held Southern Vermont without a kill.  The Panthers went on a long run behind the serving of freshman Charlotte Devine (Charlottesville, N.C.) and never looked back, cruising to the 25-6 victory.

Junior Jessica Delgado (Los Angeles, Calif.) led Southern Vermont with seven kills while senior Carrie Baltazar (Whittier, Calif.) had five. Delgado added a team-best nine digs in the match.

Middlebury senior Meg Anderson (Berlin, Mass.) led a balanced attack with seven kills, and junior Olivia Kolodka (Verona, N.J.) added five. Junior Lizzy Reed (Cazenovia, N.Y.) had a match-high 11 digs, sophomore Kathryn Haderlein (Pasadena, Calif.) earned 18 assists in the first set, and freshman Hannah Blackburn (Chapel Hill, N.C.) had 19 helpers.

Southern Vermont (3-6) looks to bounce back on Saturday as the Mountaineers begin New England Collegiate Conference action with a 7 p.m. home match against Regis College during the College's Homecoming Weekend. The Panthers (7-0) try to remain undefeated Saturday with a New England Small College Athletic Conference bout at Hamilton College scheduled for 2 p.m. and then take on Union College at 4 p.m.
